When I was listening to Ooh La La by Goldfrapp I thought that the chorus could probably match very well with the chorus in the Talking Heads song Swamp. What I did not expect was that the two songs would match entirely so well.
In my opinion Swamp is one of the weaker Talking Heads' songs, but in this combo I like it a lot.
Electroswamp:
Talking Heads - Swamp (from Stop Making Sense) Goldfrapp - Ooh La La (extended remix and Phones re-edit)
I made this quite some time ago, but never came to finish it completely, when other projects took over. I am not entirely sure about this one, it seems alright to me but also very regular as if it misses something. Maybe I have heard it too much already. So I did finish it and you can make up your mind about this one.
What Goes Around In A Hurt World Madonna - Drowned World/Substitute For Love (instrumental) Justin Timberlake - What Goes Around (acapella) Christina Aguilera - Hurt (acapella)
This is just a little tune I made for Gybo's TV Tunes challenge. It's the main title from the television series Dexter, about a serial killer with a conscience (composed by Rolfe Kent) vs Bob Marley's Is This Love.
The idea for this mashup started when a multiply contact (DJ MarkA) posted a long mix of Propaganda tracks. I thought Ball of Confusion by the Temptations would match well with this. Then, to get along with the subject matter, War by Edin Starr was added and One Mic by Nas. The only problem is that I do not have the dirty pella by Nas, so I extracted the muted words from the original but the difference in sound is noticable, (fortunately it's only in the second verse) which I then tried to mask with sounds effect, from the track by Paul Hardcastle - 19. (Thanks to dj prince for the samplepack). If anyone has the original pella by Nas, I would like to redo this, because it's still bothering me a bit. It turned out to be my longest mashup up ever, clocking in at 8:41.

Since Popmusic is a lot about recycling and mashups are the ultimate recycled music it is just a matter of time before covers of mashups will appear. I don’t know if a cover of a mashup has been made before but here it is.
I was wondering how KrazyBen’s splendid mashup of Kraftwerk and Timbaland, ‘’The Way Models Are’’ (from last year) would sound if the original Kraftwerk backing track would be replaced by the cover The Balanescu Quartet made of The Model.
Lately, when working on my Psycho Robots track, this thought got into my mind again and so I decided to just try it for fun’s sake.
The result was pleasingly enough to me and I decided to give this a go.
Because I considered it a bit lame to post only this track I also went searching into material that would fit with another of the Kraftwerk covers by this quartet.
In the end I settled with Shakira’s Whenever, Wherever with backing of Computer Love by the Balanescu Quartet. Timing wasn’t easy, the backing track slowed down considerably in the middle section and Shakira started to get overstretched too much,. So after a lot of rearranging parts and snippets I think I succeeded.
So here they are:
Whenever, Wherever Computer Love: Shakira – Whenever, Wherever vs The Balanescu Quartet – Computer Love
(warning: long intro)
&
The Way I Model: Timbaland – The Way I Are vs The Balanescu Quartet – The Model (based on KrazyBen’s mashup The Way Models Are)
Empty Islands (Madredeus vs Supremes vs Cardigans) This mashup is in total contrast with the former that I made. This Supremes' track always had a very melancholic mood. I have tried to enhance on the mood of the lyrics by using an instrumental track of the portuguese Madredeus and snippets of Lovefool by the Cardigans
Empty Islands: Supremes - My World Is Empty Without You Madredeus - As Ilhas dos Açores Cardigans - Lovefool
I Put A Spell On Your Ideals - Diamanda Galas vs Digitalism
When I was working on a Halloween track some months ago I was rediscovering Diamanda Galas. For those who do not know her, she has a voice that penetrates your spine and is definitely not your average top 40 singer. For that Halloween work I had used a small bit of her version of I Put A Spell On You. To use the whole track I needed something that sounded a bit dirty and nasty and I think this Digitalism track complements her vocals.
I Put A Spell On Your Ideals: Diamanda Galas - I Put A Spell On You vs Digitalism - Idealistic

This was made for the cancelled BBI XXXmas compilation. The aim was to make a Christmas song that would make Cliff Richard look away in shame. This one does not feature Cliff, but Michael Jackson appears to have a somewhat unexpected masochistic streak somewhere in the song.
Vocals: several Christmas songs from the Motown label, like the Supremes, Jackson 5, Temptations and Smokey Robinson
Music: Pornsonic – Nice ‘N Sleazy Does It and a sample from Justify My Love by Madonna
Cameos: George Friedrich Händel, Snoop Dogg, quite a lot of heavy panting, Donna Summer amd Britney
Editors - Rat Race (instrumental) vs Robbie Willliams - Sin Sin Sin (acapella)
The pella was the first one I ever made myself by using phase inversion on an instrumental track and adding that to the full mix. However I never could find any good use for it. When trying what could fit with the excellent Editors track I noticed that these went together very well. So finally this pella can go to the used pellas bin

Inspired by a comment I decided to take my hands on a video mashup, something I never did before. Here it is, containing elements from Mars attacks, Star Trek and Kylie Minogue:
I have been working on tracks for a while for the SF themed compilation album "The Vinyl Frontier vol.1: mashups from outer space" by Beat-Boot-ique that has been released recently (see previous blog). 2 tracks of mine are featured on that album. I made some more that did not make it into the final cut. Here are 4 of them of which Slow Martian Nasty Girl is featured on the album. Because of the nature of the album these are not your average mashups!
Slow Martian Nasty Girl:
Kylie Minogue - Slow Vanity 6 - Nasty Girl Danny Elfman - Martian Spy Girl bitrate 320 (as featured on the BBI album, remastered by Celebrity Murder Party) link here
The Eve of a Dreaded Problem: Juno Reactor ft Gocoo: Teahouse Jeff Wayne: The Eve of the War Apollo 13 crew: Trouble Sequence Bernard Hermann - The Day The Earth Stood Still (prelude) Olive - You're Not Alone Oakenfold - Dread Rock Danny Elfman - The Arrival Donna Summer - I Feel Love bitrate 256 (This is an extension of The Eve of A Problem, which is the opening track of The Vinyl Frontier) link here
Rocket Session: Elton John - Rocket Man Linkin Park - Session bitrate 256 link here
This Is Why I'm Frozen: Madonna - Frozen Mims - This Is Why I'm Hot Nelly Furtado - Turn Off The Light Danny Elfman - Ungodly Experiments bitrate 256 link here
Beat-Boot-Ique has released a new compilation album featuring two tracks of mine.
This one is based on Science Fiction or Space Music in it's broadest interpretations, featuring mashups, remixes, new material and totally reconstructed tracks.
New for BBI releases is that this is the first album that was reviewed by a prerelease team so that the overall quality of the album could be raised before final release. The album has an excellent flow and feels like those old concept albums, which is quite an achievement considering that all contributors where working separately on their tracks, proving that the use of this pre-release team succeeded in creating a homogenic album, instead of a collection of loosely themed, but separate tracks. The album has been mastered by Celebrity Murder Party and he did a fine job on that.
Everyone who has an interest in spacey songs and soundscapes should give this album a listen.
An excellent introduction to the album can be read here where it can also be downloaded.
Individual songs are not released yet. In time I will publish my contributions as individual mp3's along with an extended version of the opening track and some outtakes that did not fit in the final version of the album.

With the summer not really getting in full swing I decided to make some summer tracks.
One new, and a remake of an old one which was featured on the summer booty compilation from Beat Boot Ique a while ago.
The new one:
Who's Your Liar: Beyonce & Shakira - Beautiful Liar (spanglish version) vs Daddy Yankee - Who's Your Daddy.
The link to the mp3 can be found here and on the links tab.
I made this one for my wife who's totally into reggaeton and Beyonce and Shakira.
The old one (though remastered, the vocal should be better in the mix and a recurring click at the end has been removed):
Drop It Like It's Chichi: Snoop Dogg: Drop It Like It's Hot vs Chichi Peralta - Un Día Más.
The link to the mp3 can be found here and on the links tab. For a version without ambient (jungle) sounds during the mix (except for the end) click here
Both tracks have some imperfections but I think are still enjoyable, it's up to you to decide.
